History of the CAYFL and it's growth

CAYFL History 2004 - 2005 Season
Here is a brief history of the Central Arizona Youth Football League.

In late October 2004, a small group of adult volunteers, from the east, southeast and north areas of the Valley, started to meet to discuss options for youth football in the Valley. From these discussions and meetings, three Associations that were members of another youth football federation, decided that they were going to make a change, and offer another option for the youth of the Valley to participate in tackle football, flag football and cheerleading.

In January 2005, these three Associations, South East Valley, Cave Creek/Carefree, and Chandler formed the Central Arizona Youth Football League, affiliated with American Youth Football, based in Florida.

Mr. Rhett Turner (South East Valley), was the first CAYFL Executive Chairman, this is a position that would rotate between member Associations on a yearly basis.

With the formation of the CAYFL, we joined both the Tucson, Arizona and San Diego, California areas as sister Leagues now affiliated with American Youth Football.

Our first season of play was the 2005 season, and all three CAYFL Associations had great success and growth within their areas from the previous season!

CAYFL History 2006 Season

Our 2006 season was one that we experienced new Associations joining our League, and our original Associations continuing to show growth in their areas of the Valley.

Mr. J. Scott Brown (Cave Creek) served as the CAYFL Executive Chairman for the 2006 season.

For the 2006 season, new member Associations added were:

the South Mountain Association, located in the south central Phoenix area,

the Gilbert Youth Football Association,

the West Valley Association, located in the Glendale/Peoria area,

and the Desert Highlands Youth Football Association, located in the Anthem,
New River, Tramonto, Desert Hills areas of the north valley.

Now with seven member Associations, the CAYFL was able to offer our flag, tackle and cheer programs to even more children throughout the Valley !!
For the 2006 season, CAYFL fielded 17 flag teams, and 58 tackle teams, with about 1900 children in our programs.

The Buckeye Association will serve all boys and girls in the Buckeye , Tonopah , Gila Bend, and some of the Goodyear areas of the Valley, with tackle and cheer programs for the 2008 season.

CAYFL is pleased to announce that we have a new chartered member in our League for the 2008 season, bringing the total of member Associations to 14, in CAYFL.

As the CAYFL starts to organize for our third season of play, some additions have been made to the League.

First, Mr. Brent Stark (Chandler) is the new 2007 CAYFL Executive Chairman.

Next, CAYFL continues to grow into new areas of the Valley. joining the member Associations from last year, the CAYFL is pleased to announce adding
